EARWAX OET SPEAKING ROLE PLAY SCRIPT

Patient

Your preparation time is over. You can now start your role play. Don’t worry if I stop you when the time is up.

Good morning. My name is Narso Andrew and I am one of the registered nurses in the clinic. Can I have your name for the records, please?

Patient

Hi Good morning Nurse Andrew. My name is Patricia.

Hi patricia. How can I assist you today?

Patient

Andrew I’m here because my daughter has been having some trouble with her ears and I think it might be ear wax. I was hoping to give some advice on how to remove it at home.

I understand your concern patricia. It’s important to address your issues promptly. However I recommend bringing your daughter to the clinic for a proper examination and ear wax removal.

Patient

Oh I was hoping to avoid that if possible. I thought maybe there was something I could do at home to help her.

Patricia, I completely understand your concerns about bringing your daughter to the clinic for earwax removal. It’s natural to want to address the issue at home, but there are potential complications with diy  methods. Attempting earwax removal without professional guidance can inadvertently push the wax deeper into the ear canal making the situation more challenging. There’s also a risk of injury or irritation given the delicate nature of the ear.

On the other hand our clinic is equipped with trained professionals who specialize in ear care. We use specialized tools and techniques to ensure a safe and effective procedure.

Patient

It might be nurse. But  I’ve read online about home remedies like using drops or warm water which seems to be easy and less complicated. Can I try those first?

I appreciate your proactive approach patricia. While home remedies may work in some cases. but It’s essential to consider the specific needs of your daughter. Patricia, I genuinely understand your concerns, and your inclination to care for your daughter at home. However, it’s crucial to emphasize the necessity of a thorough examination before considering earwax removal. Earwax is a natural mechanism designed by the body to protect the ears.

It contains substances that act as a barrier preventing infections, and keeping harmful elements like bugs, sand and dirt from reaching the eardrum. Moreover, earwax possesses anti-microbial properties. Removing earwax without a proper examination can potentially compromise this natural protection. It’s important to ensure that the removal process is tailored to your daughter’s specific needs and doesn’t inadvertently strip her ears of the vital defenses provided by earwax.

Hence, I recommend only considering earwax removal after a careful and thorough examination To guarantee the best and safest outcome for her ear health.

Patient

I see nurse, I was  unaware of this. I thought it might be a simple issue.

I hear your concerns and will address them together Patricia, Our clinic specializes in ear care, and we have the expertise to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for your daughter. If we don’t address the issue properly, it could lead to more significant problems such as infections or hearing loss.

Patient

I didn’t think it could be that serious. Okay Maybe we should come to the clinic. What will happen then?

I appreciate your understanding Patricia. When you bring your daughter in, we will conduct a thorough examination to determine the best course of action. Our goal is to make the process as comfortable as possible for her and we’ll explain each step along the way. It’s a simple procedure that can make a significant difference in her well-being.

Patient

Thank you Nurse Andrew. I want what’s best for my daughter. And if it’s safer to do it here then we’ll come to the clinic.

You’re very welcome patricia. I’m glad we could discuss this together. Bringing your daughter to the clinic ensures she receives the best care as possible. If you have any more questions or concerns Feel free to ask. We’re here to help.
